Help & answers
Frequently asked questions
What type of clay do you use for your ceramics?
All Clayventures pieces are wheel-thrown using stoneware clay, which is fired in a gas kiln at high temperatures. The gas kiln allows us to work with natural glaze variations no two pieces are exactly identical, which we consider part of the beauty of handmade ceramics.
Are your ceramics food safe and lead free?
Yes — all Clayventures ceramics are food safe and lead free. We formulate our own glazes and use only food-safe materials. Every piece is kiln fired to food-safe temperatures, making them safe for everyday use with food and drink.
Will my piece look exactly like the photo?
Because every Clayventures piece is individually hand-thrown and gas kiln fired, there will be subtle variations in glaze colour, texture, and form between pieces. These variations are a natural feature of handmade ceramics not a defect. Your piece will be similar to the product photo but uniquely its own.
Where are your ceramics made?
Every piece is made in our studio in Ahmedabad, India. We wheel-throw, glaze, and fire everything in-house using our gas kiln. Clayventures is a one-person studio each piece is made by hand, one at a time.
Are Clayventures mugs microwave and dishwasher safe?
Our glazed pieces are generally microwave safe for short durations. For dishwasher use, we recommend hand washing to preserve the glaze finish and longevity of your piece high dishwasher temperatures can dull glazes over time. What should I do if my piece chips or cracks?

What is Serai?
Serai is a handmade ceramic matcha cup and goblet by Clayventures. Named after the Malay word for lemongrass, it holds 220ml and features an elevated goblet form, a matte cream exterior, and a hand-drawn blue underglaze lemongrass motif. It is designed for matcha, wine, coconut water, or any drink that deserves a little ceremony.
When will Serai be available to buy?
Serai is currently in its pre-launch phase. A small first batch is being prepared at our Ahmedabad studio. Follow us on Instagram @clayyventures to be the first to know when it goes live.
What size is Serai and is it right for matcha?
Serai is 3 × 3.75 inches and holds 220ml — the right volume for a standard usucha (thin matcha) preparation. The elevated goblet form means you hold it by the stem, which naturally slows you down and makes the ritual feel considered. It also works for wine or coconut water.
Is Serai microwave and dishwasher safe?
Serai has a matte, unglazed exterior — hand washing is recommended to preserve the finish and the hand-drawn motif. Avoid prolonged soaking. The interior is food safe and can hold hot liquids. We do not recommend microwaving or dishwashing Serai.
